Kaba Introduces New RezShield™ System at AAHSA Show

Chicago, IL – November 9, 2009 – Today, Kaba Multihousing & Institutional is raising the “shield” – and raising the bar in the industry – to protect residents and operators of assisted living facilities and multihousing communities. It is launching the RezShield™ multihousing access control system, its newest offering, at the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) show (booth #1424).

The RezShield system, which includes the new 79 contactless RFID electronic lock, continues this legacy.

“Although the RezShield system is designed for all types of multi-family residential communities, including student housing, we see particular application in the senior and assisted-living market segments. That’s why we wanted to launch this product in conjunction with one of the largest assisted-living shows,” says Dale Mathias, vice president of sales, Kaba Multihousing & Institutional.

With the application of contactless radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, the system offers benefits to end-user residents as well as property managers. For property managers, the lock takes on an expanded role, according to Mathias. It stores audit trails and lock-use history, tracks staff credentials, and monitors staff and resident activity – giving a property manager the ultimate control and staff accountability. The system is extremely user-friendly; featuring a graphical user interface that also includes online help and a compilation of quick tips and tools.

 “The introduction of this locking system is an example of how technology and innovation can raise the bar – going beyond just security and access control to truly enriching lives,” says Mathias. “It will be a real aid – especially for memory care. Residents and staff don’t have to worry about theft and lost-key issues. Family members could have a credential programmed for their use – with the appropriate, limited access. Other benefits to property managers include the ability to cancel-out or reprogram a lost or stolen key – immediately– without the cost of labor and of rekeying locks.”

For residents with limited dexterity, there is no traditional key to insert into a lock and turn. Instead, a resident simply presents a modern credential – like a fob, wristband, or keycard – to the contactless lock for gaining access to their room or common/activity areas.
